What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a dance studio for women of all ages, sizes, and fitness levels to help them feel more feminine and confident through embodied movement in order to live a more turned-on, joyful, and fully expressed life. We have women from ages 20-75 years young who dance with us from all over the world through our virtual classes as well as our in-studio pole dancing classes in San Francisco!
Tell us about yourself
I've been teaching this modality of the feminine embodied movement called S Factor, as seen on the Netflix documentary: Strip Down, Rise Up, for 13 years and a student for 15 years. A girlfriend of mine introduced me to it at her bachelorette party, and the moment I saw her dance...I knew this was something special, and I wanted it for myself. When she danced for us at her party to show us what she'd been up to, I got tears in my eyes because even though I always knew she was beautiful and sexy, it was the first time I had seen her experience herself that way. Her therapist has suggested she try it to help her heal her relationship with her body since nothing else was resonating for her. I think that is what motivates me every day... is to see how women slowly shift their relationship with their bodies into one of compassion, love, and celebration through this movement. It changes everything in their lives as a result.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating a vibrant and thriving community of supportive and awesome women all over the world - and making it through a pandemic, even after being closed for 18 months. Phew!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Making time to work "on" the business - growing it and helping it thrive rather than working "in" the business and getting sucked into the day-to-day minutia of running a business. It's a challenge to focus on what's-important-but-not-urgent when there are always fires to be put out.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Always focus on your Why. Let it be your North Star.
Surround yourself with successful business owners who can uplift you in challenging times and ask for guidance.
Pay yourself and give yourself time off. If you don't make these things a priority, the money and time will flow to other places always. You absolutely cannot be of service to others when you are depleted.
